Wines such as Château Pétrus and Château Le Pin are considered the equal of and demand similarly high prices to the classified first growths of the Médoc and Saint-Émilion, such as Château Latour and Château Cheval Blanc.
The very small wine producers in the Pomerol area produce fabulous plumby, long-lived red wines. Just like the neighbouring appellation of St. Emilion the main grape variant is Merlot, and is often combined with Cabernet Franc and lesser amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon.
Unlike the other regions of Bordeaux there is no official ranking or classification system for Pomerol wines Pomerol.
Lalande de Pomerol wines are simpler and more affordable.
